I voted early, and it was awesome!

Last Friday, I printed out my Vote411 selections, checked the wait times at my county’s voting locations, grabbed my ID, mask, and hand sanitizer, and headed out to vote. I was excited, and also nervous, because I had been anxiously awaiting this moment and I wanted to be sure that everything went right. The people in line were wearing masks and stood 6 feet apart and there were hand sanitizer stations at strategic locations. I was encouraged to see a line of people because that meant our democracy was working and that people were engaged and making their voices heard. I also was glad that the line moved fast because it was hot outside! After I voted and got back home, I washed my hands, took a deep breath, and then sat down to reflect on the experience. My eyes welled up with tears. Voting had felt liberating, transformative, and empowering. It was emotional, overwhelming, and important. As much as we all do each day for students and families, the simple act of voting is one of the most effective and direct ways to exert your power to make the world a better place. And doing it feels awesome!

If you haven’t voted yet, make your voting plan today. Early voting continues through October 30th. Please do your research, print off your ballot, invite your family and friends, and make it an outing that may just be the highlight of your year. Please vote and encourage every eligible voter to do the same.
