I did something exhilarating yesterday. I voted early! If you haven’t already voted, make your plans now. Early voting for the November 2nd local and Constitutional Amendment Election is underway. This weekend – October 23 and 24- is the only weekend of early voting, so make sure you put it on your “to do” list. Early voting continues through October 29th and Election Day is November 2nd.
I’ll explain my experience to show how simple it was. I went to my county election site to make sure what would be on my ballot, find out where I could vote, and confirm the poll hours. I then went to the League of Women Voters’ site to learn the pros and cons of the ballot measures and checked my local papers to read their endorsements and recommendations. It was easy and it was fun. I got to my polling location and was greeted by a friendly worker, given simple instructions, and voted. The whole process only took a few minutes. I got a sticker on the way out and felt empowered by making my voice heard. It was the highlight of my day.
Voting in every election is important for our democracy and it is the best way to create a culture of voting. Make sure you get out and vote!
To Do:
- Check your county elections website to learn what will be on your ballot and find polling locations and times.
- Learn about the 8 constitutional amendments that will be on your ballot.
- Vote early until October 29th. If you can’t get there early, make your plan to vote on November 2nd.
