Get ready for the runoffs!
We often talk about the power of your vote, and the importance of voting in every election. As we edge closer to the July 14th primary runoff elections, let’s look at some numbers from past primary runoffs to see how much power a few voters wielded when very few others showed up to vote. In 2016, less than 4 percent of registered voters participated in the primary runoff elections – 2.64 percent in the Republican primary runoff and 1.31 percent in the Democratic primary runoff. In 2014, the Lieutenant Governor (the most powerful elected official in our state) won the Republican primary runoff with 263,194 votes, 3.6% of the 13.6 million eligible Texas voters. Those voters really had a lot of power. Don’t throw away your power. Get ready for the runoffs now!
